What is Media?

Media is the means of communication through platforms such as radio, television and film. This form of communication reaches a wide range of people globally and can communicate political, social and cultural influences.

Uses of Media

Media is not just a way of communicating a political, cultural or social message, but also a way of comunications. Social media sites like FaceBook and Twitter allow people to communicate via technology. Media is also very important in creating stimuli and inspiration for artists, writers and people of other professions.

Film

Film was first introduced in the mid-19th century. Originally created on a thin strip of plastic coated in light sensitive emulsion, film was black and white, and visiting the movie theatres was a truly magical experience. Nowadays, film is produced digitally, this produces a clearer picture of better quality. Although it is nice still to visit the movie theatres, DVD's and online movie platforms have become an extremely popular way for audiences to consume films due to the at home accessibility.
